Flushing, NY – Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Chad Billingsley underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday night.
The Dodgers said the 90-minute procedure was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. The team also said Billingsley will begin physical therapy in about a week and is expected to resume pitching in 12 months.
Billingsley was 1-0 with a 3.00 earned run average in two starts this season. The right-hander was scheduled to start last Sunday in Baltimore, but was scratched because of elbow pain. He experienced tightness in his arm after an April 15 start against San Diego and underwent an MRI exam before the team placed him on the disabled list.
The 28-year-old veteran missed the final two months of last season with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament, but opted against offseason surgery and instead received several platelet-rich plasma injections in an attempt to heal the injury.
