Cory Dixon scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds as New Orleans edged Nicholls State 70-64 on Thursday night.

Back-to-back 3-pointers brought Nicholls State (10-11, 7-5 Southland Conference) within 64-63 with 2:59 remaining. Neither team managed to score until Kevin Hill's basket with 36 seconds left gave New Orleans (10-10, 7-5) a 66-63 lead.

Shane Rillieux missed a pair of free throws after being fouled with 20 seconds left, and Dixon hit both his free throw attempts on the other end to extend the lead. Dixon made two more free throws with 10 seconds left to secure the win for New Orleans.

Dixon was 16 for 17 at the free-throw line, and the Privateers made 21 of 25 as a team. Tradarrius McPhearson added 14 points for New Orleans.

Jeremy Smith led the Colonels with 16 points. Sam McBeath added 11 points and Dantrell Thomas had 10.
