Diawara signs extension with Marseille

Marseille signed center back Souleymane year contract extension Thursday, locking up the Senegalese international through the summer of 2014.

Diawara, 32, joined Marseille from Bordeaux in 2009 and has been a regular in the backline, making 75 league appearances. He has also scored five goals.

"I am very happy. I want to win more titles with OM and I would like to finish my career here," Diawara said.

Diawara has helped Marseille win the League Cup the last two seasons.

"If we weren't happy with him, we wouldn't have offered him the extension," said Marseille coach Didier Deschamps.

"We know what he has done for the club and he remains an important person here even if he has experienced some periods where he has not been so good."
