The Arizona Diamondbacks designated infielder Cody Ransom for assignment Wednesday.

Ransom was batting just .152 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI, in 12 games with Arizona.

The move was made to make room on the 25-man roster for infielders Aaron Hill and John McDonald, who were acquired from Toronto in exchange for Kelly Johnson Tuesday.

Hill, a seven-year veteran, is batting .225 with six home runs and 45 RBI in 104 games.

McDonald has appeared in 65 games with the Blue Jays this season and is batting .250 with two homers and 20 RBI.
