Jeff Samardzija? He was picked for the first time.
One of them will get to take the field for next week's game in Minneapolis.
Samardzija has no choice but to watch.
Jeter, the future Hall of Famer who has regularly received gifts and ovations this season as he visits ballparks for the last time, was voted by fans as an American League starter for the ninth time, his no-doubt-about-it selection hardly a surprise when the teams were announced on Sunday night.
Samardzija won't be allowed to pitch in the game despite making the National League team via the player ballot because he was traded from the Chicago Cubs to the AL's Oakland Athletics on Saturday.
Major League Baseball said the right-hander will be considered a member of the NL team and will receive full All-Star honors, but is ineligible to play.
NL manager Mike Matheny picked Atlanta's Julio Teheran to replace Samardzija.
Samardzija's selection means the A's, who lead the majors with a 55-33 record, have an MLB-best seven All-Stars on their roster, including third baseman Josh Donaldson, who was voted onto his first All-Star team as a starter. The A's will send at least six players to the game for the first time since 1975.
The NL-leading Milwaukee Brewers will send four players to the game, as will Matheny's St. Louis Cardinals, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds.
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista led all players with nearly 5.86 million fan votes. Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki led the NL with almost 5.35 million votes -- which didn't surprise Rockies manager Walt Weiss.
"Rightfully so with the first half he's put together," Weiss said Sunday after Tulowitzki returned to the lineup after missing two games because of tightness in his groin.
Baltimore's Nelson Cruz, tied for the MLB lead with 27 home runs, was voted to the AL team as a designated hitter despite serving a 50-game suspension with Texas last season over his association with the Biogenesis drug scandal.
Orioles teammate Matt Wieters was the top vote-getter among AL catchers but is unavailable for the game after having season-ending Tommy John surgery. Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez will start instead after being selected via the players ballot.
Detroit first baseman Miguel Cabrera and Seattle second baseman Robinson Cano will join Jeter and Donaldson in the AL infield. Angels star Mike Trout and Baltimore's Adam Jones round out the AL outfield with Bautista.
Jones surpassed Oakland's Yoenis Cespedes for the final outfield spot in the AL, while Trout joined Mickey Mantle, Al Kaline and Ken Griffey Jr. as the only AL outfielders to play in three All-Star Games before they turned 23.
Joining Tulowitzki in the NL infield will be Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley and Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez.
Dodgers star Yasiel Puig made his first All-Star team in his second season and will play the outfield with fellow starters Andrew McCutchen of Pittsburgh and Carlos Gomez of Milwaukee.
Seattle's Felix Hernandez might be the front-runner to start the game for Boston manager John Farrell, who could also choose Yankees rookie Masahiro Tanaka, Mark Buehrle of Toronto, Scott Kazmir of Oakland or Yu Darvish of Texas.
The NL starters named to the team were Cincinnati's Johnny Cueto, St. Louis' Adam Wainwright, Los Angeles' Clayton Kershaw and San Francisco's Madison Bumgarner.
A fan vote at MLB.com will determine the final player for each team from a pool of five players in each league.
