Washington, D.C. (SportsNetwork.com) - D.C. United made a splash in Thursday's MLS Re-Entry Draft, selecting Sean Franklin and Bobby Boswell to bolster the club's defense.

Franklin, whose option was declined by the Los Angeles Galaxy, was taken by D.C. United with the first overall pick in the Re-Entry Draft. United was the lone MLS club to select a player in the second round of the draft as it picked up Boswell from the Houston Dynamo.

The Portland Timbers traded up with Chivas USA to get the second overall pick in the draft, also acquiring Jorge Villafana in exchange for Andrew Jean- Baptiste. The Timbers used the improved position in the draft to take Steve Zakuani from Seattle Sounders FC.

The Philadelphia Union added Corben Bone and the Colorado Rapids selected Marc Burch to round out the draft.

Players not selected in Thursday's draft are eligible for Stage Two, which will take place on Dec. 18.
