The Chicago Cubs claimed outfielder Julio Borbon off waivers from the Texas Rangers on Friday.

Borbon had just one at-bat this season before being designated for assignment on April 9.

In 2012, Borbon spent the entire season in Triple-A Round Rock (PCL), posting a .304 batting average, 10 home runs, 56 RBI and 20 stolen bases. The 27-year- old has a .283 career average with seven home runs, 73 RBI and 40 stolen bases in 216 games with the Rangers.

In addition, infielder Alberto Gonzalez was designated for assignment. He batted .217 in 11 games this season.
