The Colorado Rapids acquired allocation money and midfielder Nathan Sturgis from the Houston Dynamo on Sunday in exchange for forward Omar Cummings.

The 30-year-old Cummings joined Colorado in 2007 and tallied 39 goals during his time with the Rapids, including his best season in 2010 when he netted 14 goals to help Colorado capture its first MLS Cup.

Cummings has also been capped 28 times by Jamaica, scoring seven goals in international play.

Sturgis, 25, is a veteran of seven MLS seasons and has appeared in a total of 80 matches during his time with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Real Salt Lake, Seattle and Toronto FC prior to arriving in Houston.

"Adding allocation money gives us flexibility as we look to bring in players for 2013, and Nathan has a lot of experience and can play several positions in midfield and defense," said technical director Paul Bravo. "It is difficult to part with Omar, who has been such an important player for us since his arrival in 2007. His achievements with the Rapids will always be remembered by our organization and our fans, and we wish him the very best with the Dynamo."
