Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin announced his starting rotation for the American League Division Series against the Detroit Tigers, with ace Bartolo Colon getting the start in Friday's Game 1.

Colon went 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts this season. His win total was second-best in the AL to his Game 1 counterpart Max Scherzer's 21, while his ERA was second-best in the league.

Rookie Sonny Gray will start Game 2 for the A's, followed by Jarrod Parker in Game 3 and Dan Straily in Game 4, if necessary. Colon would go if the series lasts five games.

A.J. Griffin, who went 14-10 with a 3.83 ERA in 32 start this season, wasn't an option for the A's due to elbow tendinitis and is expected to be left off the ALDS roster.

Gray went 5-3 with a 2.67 ERA in 12 games (10 starts) this season. His reward is facing off against Detroit's Justin Verlander in Game 2.

Parker posted a 12-8 mark with a 3.97 ERA in 32 starts, while Straily went 10-8 with a 3.96 ERA in 27 starts. Parker will face Detroit's Anibal Sanchez and Straily will go against Doug Fister in a potential Game 4.
