Ricardo Clark netted the only goal of the contest on Saturday as the Houston Dynamo earned a huge three points with a 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park.

The home side had the better of the play for most of the first half and appeared to take the lead in the 40th minute when midfielder Keon Daniel whipped a free kick from distance that was misjudged by Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall and flew into the net.

But the goal was disallowed when the assistant referee determined that Philadelphia defender Amobi Okugo had interfered with the play and the sides went into the break scoreless.

Houston snagged the lead in the 53rd minute with a perfectly executed set piece as Brad Davis sent a lofted free kick into the box that was headed home by Clark for his second goal in as many matches against Philadelphia.

The Union had several opportunities to find the equalizer but were never able to connect a final pass and have not scored in any of their last three matches.

The result sees the Dynamo jump into fifth place in the East on 40 points, while the Union drop out of the playoff picture, stuck on 39 points.
