Chivas USA announced on Wednesday that the club has hired Jose Luis Sanchez Sola to be its new head coach.

Sanchez Sola takes over for Robin Fraser, who was let go at the end of this past season following a 7-18-9 record that saw the Goats finish on the bottom of the Western Conference table.

"Very honored, very grateful and committed to fulfill the goals of the institution," Sanchez Sola said in a statement. "I know that with the support of the staff currently in place, my transition into MLS will be that much easier. We are going to take on this new challenge with lots of energy and aspirations."

The 53-year-old Sanchez Sola has six years of head coaching experience in Mexico, including stops at Puebla, Estudiantes Tecos and Correcaminos.

Sanchez Sola will take charge of the club immediately to prepare for the Jan. 17 MLS SuperDraft, and he will hope to snap a string of three successive seasons without a playoff appearance for Chivas.
