Chipper Jones has knee surgery

Atlanta, GA – Chipper Jones underwent successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee on Monday.

The Journal-Constitution reported the procedure, the sixth for the 39-year-old infielder, who is set to retire at the end of this season.

Jones, who sent a text to the paper following his surgery, still hopes to return for the Braves' home opener on April 13.

Heading into his 19th major-league season, Jones has battled some injury issues the past few years. When in the lineup, however, he has still been productive as his 18 homers, 70 runs batted in and .275 batting average from 2011 illustrate.
