Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Diego Chargers selected 2014 Buck Buchanan Award winner Kyle Emanuel from North Dakota State in the fifth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday.

The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Emanuel was the No. 153 overall selection.

"Couldn't be more excited to be a Charger!" Emanuel wrote on Twitter.

Emanuel was a runaway winner of top defensive honors in the FCS last season while NDSU went on to win its record fourth straight national title. His senior class posted a 58-3 record over the last four seasons.

Emanuel played in all 61 career games, with 49 starts, at defensive end. He is expected to transition to outside linebacker in the NFL.

He collected 41 sacks in his career, including 19.5 as a senior - the FCS seasonal high along with 32.5 tackles for loss

"Good instincts, fights off his blocks ... he's just relentless," ESPN analyst Todd McShay said.
