Dundee, Scotland (SportsNetwork.com) - Dundee United handed Celtic the Scottish Premier League title on Saturday after securing a 1-0 home victory over second-place Aberdeen.
Celtic's 5-0 win over Dundee on Friday meant that Aberdeen needed a win at United on Saturday to keep the title race alive.
However, Robbie Muirhead's goal in the 13th minute was enough to give United the win and Celtic its fourth straight SPL title.
Aberdeen had a good chance six minutes into the game when a free kick from Johnny Hayes found the head of Adam Rooney, whose header was stopped by goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak, as well as a rebound attempt from Ash Taylor.
The goal came seven minutes later courtesy of a well-weighted ball from John Souttar. The pass split two Aberdeen defenders and was tracked down by Muirhead, who slotted his shot past goalkeeper Scott Brown.
Brown produced a fine stop on Muirhead in a one-on-one situation in the second half to keep his side within a goal, while Rooney's low shot for Aberdeen was saved by the legs of Cierzniak.
The visitors had one final chance late in the match to salvage a point but a free from Jonathan Hayes was just beyond the reach of Taylor at the far post.
Also on Saturday, Hamilton used second-half goals from Darian MacKinnon and Nigel Hasselbaink to top Kilmarnock, 3-2, Motherwell and Ross County traded first-half goals in a 1-1 draw, last-place St Mirren moved closer to being relegated after losing 3-0 at Partick Thistle, while Brian Graham scored the equalizer for St Johnstone in the 82nd minute of a 1-1 draw with Inverness.
