The St. Louis Cardinals purchased the contract of pitcher Trevor Rosenthal from Double-A Springfield on Monday.

Rosenthal, 22, has started 17 games this season for Springfield, compiling an 8-6 record. He ranked second in the Texas League with a 2.78 earned run average.

The right-hander, who has yet to appear in a major league game, recorded 83 strikeouts to just 37 walks over 94 innings of work.

St. Louis also optioned pitcher Maikel Cleto to Triple-A Memphis and transferred pitcher Jaime Garcia (strained left shoulder) to the 60-day disabled list.
