The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled pitchers Carlos Martinez and Sam Freeman from Triple-A Memphis.

Additionally, St. Louis optioned pitcher Keith Butler and first baseman/outfielder Brock Peterson to Memphis.

Martinez is scheduled to make his first big league start Thursday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The right-hander has pitched 10 times out of the bullpen for the Cardinals this season and has pitched to a 5.56 ERA, but has yet to record a decision.

Freeman was 7-2 with a 2.95 ERA and two saves in 44 games pitched with Memphis this year. The left-hander made 24 relief appearances as a rookie for the Cardinals last season, going 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA.
