Canadiens sign D Jeff Woywitka to 1-year contract

MONTREAL (AP) - The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenseman Jeff Woywitka to a one-year contract.

Woywitka had two goals and nine assists in 63 games with the Dallas Stars last year. He has also played for the St. Louis Blues.

For his career, the 27-year-old Woywitka has played in 251 regular-season games. He has eight goals, 41 assists and 141 penalty minutes.

Woywitka, 6-foot-3 and 227 pounds, was drafted in the first round by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2001.
