The last time the Bruins and Panthers met, Florida was dealt its worst shutout loss in franchise history.
Boston will look for a repeat of that dominating performance as it tries to avoid losing back-to-back road games for the first time this season.
The Bruins are 11-3-2 in their last 16 games versus the Panthers, but all five of those losses in this series have been shutout setbacks. Boston was dealt a 2-0 home defeat on Dec. 8, but countered with an 8-0 victory against visiting Florida on Dec. 23. Brad Marchand logged his first career hat trick as part of a five-point game, while Tuukka Rask made 30 saves.
Boston has won its past four games in Florida and is 12-5-0 as the guest overall this season. However, the Northeast Division leaders are coming off a 4-2 defeat in Carolina on Saturday.
Patrice Bergeron and Milan Lucic provided the offense for the Bruins, whose two-game win streak came to an end with their third loss in 14 games and only their sixth since Nov. 1. Boston is now three points behind the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks for the most in the NHL and a point up on Ottawa for first place in the division.
Tim Thomas allowed three goals on just 20 shots in defeat.
"It was basically all tips, skates and knuckling pucks," said Thomas, talking about the luck that came with Carolina's goals. "They did the right things. You throw it at the net with traffic and see what happens. Sometimes you win games like that."
One bright spot in the loss was David Krejci extended his career-best point streak to 11 straight games. He has five goals and 11 assists over that run.
The Panthers are in the midst of a 5-6-4 slide that has allowed the Capitals to catch them for first place in the Southeast Division. Both clubs have 50 points following Florida's 4-1 defeat to visiting Pittsburgh.
Michal Repik scored the lone goal for the Panthers, who have lost three of four overall. Scott Clemmensen was tagged for all four goals on 41 shots.
"They played desperate, worked hard and they out-worked us all night long," said Clemmensen. "Give them credit, they out-worked us and they deserved to win tonight."
While Jason Garrison notched his career-high 19th point of the season, Stephen Weiss went a fourth straight game without a point. He remains tied with Olli Jokinen for the club mark with 231 assists and will play in his 599th career game this evening.
Kris Versteeg and Tomas Kopecky have logged the only goals for the Panthers against the Bruins this season.
