BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Bruins will open defense of their Stanley Cup championship on Oct. 6 at home against the Philadelphia Flyers, the team they swept in the second round of the playoffs.

In the schedule announced Thursday, the Bruins also will play at home against the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 7. It's the only regular-season meeting between the teams that played a seven-game final that ended with the Bruins' first championship in 39 years.

The Bruins also will have one game against the 2010 champions, the Chicago Blackhawks, on Oct. 15 in Chicago.

As usual, the Bruins will play an afternoon game the day after Thanksgiving. They'll face the Detroit Red Wings.

Boston's longest homestand is five games between Nov. 7 and 17. The longest trip is six games from Feb. 15 to Feb. 25.
