Kevin Brown scored 18 points as New Orleans opened the season by defeating Pensacola Christian 88-61 on Tuesday night.

New Orleans led from the start but the Eagles stayed close, trailing 16-13 midway of the first half. That changed quickly when Christavious Gill hit a 3-point jumper, Tevin Broyles made a layup and Brown nailed a 3-pointer to pull away 24-13. The Privateers were in control at the half 47-34. Pensacola Christian never threatened again.

Broyles and Gill finished with 11 points apiece and Syon Terance added 10 for New Orleans (1-0).

New Orleans made 17 of 30 field goal attempts in the first half and finished with 52.7 percent shooting for the game.

Corey Williams led the Eagles with 16 points, Joel Thomas had 14 and Jon Andrews added 11.
