Breakout season earns Fehr two-year deal with Capitals

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Washington Capitals have signed former first-round draft pick Eric Fehr, who set career highs in goals and assists last season, to a two-year contract, the team said on Thursday.

Fehr scored 21 goals and had 18 assists while averaging 12:07 of ice time. All of the 105 other NHL players who scored at least 20 goals averaged more ice time than Fehr.

The 24-year-old right wing, drafted by Washington in 2003, registered three goals in seven playoff games last season, third-best on the Capitals.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
