Atlanta Braves pitcher Cristhian Martinez was arrested early Monday on charges of driving under the influence.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a Gwinnett County police officer recorded Martinez traveling well under the speed limit and, upon pulling him over, smelled alcohol on his breath. A field sobriety test registered his blood alcohol content at .13, over Georgia's .08 legal limit.

He was also reportedly charged with improper lane change and impeding the flow of traffic.

"We were very concerned to learn of the arrest of Cristhian Martinez in Gwinnett County this morning," the Braves said in a statement. "We will require him to be evaluated by an independent professional, as provided for in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement."

The club said it was refusing further comment until more details emerged, thus declining to discuss whether the reliever would retain the roster spot he secured this spring. Martinez posted a 1.38 earned run average with 13 strikeouts and a .159 batting average against over 13 innings in Grapefruit League play.

Martinez is the second Atlanta player in less than a year to be charged with DUI. Derek Lowe, now with Cleveland, was arrested in April 2011 after allegedly racing another driver while intoxicated, but those charges were later dropped.

The 30-year-old Martinez has made 79 appearances in relief over three seasons with the Marlins and Braves, going 2-4 with a 4.02 ERA.
