The Atlanta Braves designated pitcher Livan Hernandez for assignment on Friday.

The 37-year-old righty was signed in the offseason by the team after he spent the previous two-plus seasons with Washington.

He pitched 18 games out of the bullpen for Atlanta and went 1-1 with a 4.94 earned run average.

Since coming into the league with Florida in 1996, he has gone 175-177 over 493 games, 474 of which were starts. He has also pitched for San Francisco, Montreal, Arizona and the New York Mets.

Also on Friday, the team recalled pitcher Kris Medlen from Triple-A Gwinnett.

He appeared in 21 games earlier in the season for Atlanta before being sent to Gwinnett to pitch as a starter. He is 1-1 with a 3.49 ERA out of the bullpen with the Braves this season.
