Newport, Wales – Gregory Bourdy birdied his final three holes on Sunday to close out a 4-under 67 and claim a 2-stroke win at the Wales Open.
Bourdy earned his fourth career victory on the European Tour at 8-under-par 276.
"It was an amazing round," said Bourdy. "I made an amazing finish with three birdies in a row and I am so happy."
Third-round leader Peter Uihlein had a chance to force a playoff with a lengthy birdie putt at the 18th hole, but he could not convert. He posted an up-and-down 1-over 72 during his final round at Celtic Manor Resort to take sole possession of second place at 6-under 278.
Soren Kjeldsen fired the low round of the day with a 5-under 66 to capture third at 5-under 279, while John Parry (68) and Joost Luiten (71) shared fourth at minus-3.
Graeme Storm (71) and Damien McGrane (71) tied for sixth at 2-under 282.
Uihlein entered the second round with a 3-stroke lead, but Bourdy quickly cut into that advantage by holing out from a greenside bunker for an eagle at the second to move to 6-under and pull within a shot of the overnight leader.
Uihlein followed in the final pairing and birdied the second to regain some of his cushion, but bogeyed the third to fall back to 7-under.
The American made it two bogeys in a row at the fourth to fall into a tie for the lead with Bourdy.
After Bourdy countered a bogey at the sixth with a 5-foot birdie at the ninth to remain tied for the lead as both players made the turn, Uihlein failed to get up and down for par from a greenside bunker at the 10th to hand the outright lead to Bourdy.
Bourdy 2-putted for birdie at the 11th to move to 7-under and push his advantage over Uihlein to two strokes.
Kjeldsen then made a late push with birdies at the 15th and 17th to move into second place at 6-under before closing with a bogey at the last to set the clubhouse mark at 5-under.
Bourdy, meanwhile, tripped to a 3-putt bogey at the 13th that he followed with another bogey at the 14th to meet Kjeldsen and Uihlein at 5-under.
Uihlein first pulled ahead with a 2-putt birdie at the 15th, but just moments later, Bourdy began his late surge by rolling in a 50-foot birdie from off the green at the 16th.
Bourdy followed with another lengthy birdie effort from 15 feet at the 17th to claim the outright lead at 7-under. Uihlein kept pace with 20-foot birdie effort at the 17th to meet him there.
That left it up the final hole, where Bourdy's putter stayed hot with his third straight birdie from long distance to finish at 8-under.
Needing to match to force a playoff, Uihlein's drive sailed wide left and after he was forced to lay up with his second, the American failed to convert his 25-foot birdie effort en route to a 3-putt bogey.
"I will remember the finish on this great course for a long time. A lot of great moments have been here; I was thinking about the Ryder Cup on the 18th so I am so proud to win this trophy," said Bourdy.
NOTES: Bourdy's last victory came at the 2009 Hong Kong Open ... Bourdy collected 348,660 euros with the victory, which moved him to 19th on the European Tour's Order of Merit ... Uihlein collected his seventh top-10 finish this season, including his first career win at the Madeira Islands Open.
