New York, NY – Anaheim's Bruce Boudreau, Ottawa's Paul MacLean and Joel Quenneville of Chicago have been named finalists for the Jack Adams Award as the top coach in the NHL.
Boudreau, in his first full season behind the Anaheim bench, led the Ducks to the Pacific Division title and the second seed in the Western Conference playoffs. The Ducks went from 25th overall in the NHL last season to third this year with a record of 30-12-6 under Boudreau, who won the award with Washington in 2008.
MacLean is an Adams finalist for the second straight year. He guided an injury-ravaged Senators team to the playoffs for the second consecutive season in 2013, finishing 25-17-6. In addition to losing such key players as star defenseman Erik Karlsson and goaltender Craig Anderson for much of the year, the Senators also had a league-high 14 rookies play at least one game.
Quenneville previously won the Adams Award in 2000 with St. Louis and this season led the Blackhawks to their second Presidents' Trophy as the league's top team with a record of 36-7-5. Chicago opened the season with a 21-0-3 run, breaking Anaheim's 2006-07 mark of 16 consecutive games with at least a point to start the season.
The winner will be announced during the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals.
