Washington, D.C. – D.C. United midfielder Branko Boskovic signed a new contract Friday and will not be classified as a Designated Player under the new deal.
The 32-year-old Boskovic joined United in 2010 as a Designated Player, but has signed a new deal to stay with D.C. at non-DP salary, which was not disclosed. He has played 12 of United's 17 matches this season.
"Branko was very professional throughout this whole process," said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper. "It never affected his play.
"This is a win-win for everybody. He is an important part of our team and we are thrilled that this is now finished and we can move forward."
Boskovic, a Montenegro international, played just four league games last year before suffering an ACL tear. He played 13 games in his first season in 2010.
"I'm staying because this team is really good and we have a chance to be the best in MLS," said Boskovic. "I want to help the team make the playoffs and win a championship."
Capped 23 times for Montenegro - and 12 times for the former Serbia and Montenegro - Boskovic joined United from Rapid Vienna in Austria, where he played from 2006-10 and scored 24 goals in 122 games. Boskovic has also played for Red Star Belgrade and PSG, among others.
United, which is tied for first in the Eastern Conference, hosts the Montreal Impact on Saturday.
