Pittsburgh, PA – Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin updated the condition of a number of injured players Tuesday and said he expects Ben Roethlisberger to play Sunday despite a foot injury but added that linebacker James Harrison would be sidelined for a few games because of a fractured orbital bone.
Both players were among the many Steelers hurt during last Sunday's 17-10 loss to Houston.
Roethlisberger managed to finish the game after injuring his left foot during the fourth quarter, while Harrison sat out a majority of the second half after he was hurt in the first half.
"Needless to say, he's going to be out for a number of weeks," Tomlin said about Harrison, who is expected to undergo surgery on Wednesday. "I will have more details regarding that injury and the rate of recovery after he has the surgical procedure."
As for Roethlisberger, Tomlin indicated that the quarterback may be limited in practice early this week as the 2-2 Steelers begin preparations for Sunday's contest against Tennessee.
"[He] had his foot x-rayed, MRI'd [and] thankfully nothing's broken there," Tomlin stated. "It is a sprain and may limit him at the early portions [in practice] of the week, but we do anticipate him being able to participate in this football game. We're going to let the week speak to us."
When pressed for more details, Tomlin added that the team will also get backup Charlie Batch ready if needed.
Tomlin also said defensive end Aaron Smith could miss Sunday's game because of a foot sprain and linebacker Jason Worilds would be doubtful because of a left quad injury.
In addition, running backs Rashard Mendenhall and Mewelde Moore may be limited in practice this week because of injuries. Mendenhall missed much of last week's game because of a right hamstring issue, while Moore is bothered by a left ankle sprain.
