Berahino's brace leads West Brom past Chelsea

West Bromwich, England ( - Saido Berahino scored a goal in each half to help West Bromwich to a 3-0 win over 10-man Chelsea at The Hawthorns on Monday.

Neither side had a lot to play for with Chelsea having already clinched the title while West Brom was assured of a place in the Premier League for next season.

But it was the Baggies that came out strong with Berahino putting the hosts in front after nine minutes with a wonderful curling effort from 25 yards.

Chelsea was reduced to 10 men just before the half-hour mark when Cesc Fabregas was sent off for kicking a ball that struck the head of West Brom's Chris Brunt during a stoppage in play.

Despite being down a man, the visitors nearly equalized on a free kick from Filipe Luis that West Brom goalkeeper Boaz Myhill did well to parry to safety.

Berahino then doubled his side's lead just after the restart when he was tripped inside the penalty area by John Terry, allowing him to score from the spot with a shot inside the left post that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois managed to get a hand on.

Loic Remy struck the post for Chelsea in the 56th minute as the Blues attempted to get back into the game, but the hosts hit back again on the hour mark to cap the victory.

A short corner kick allowed Brunt to work his way into the box on the right and he drove a left-footed past Courtois at his near post to hand Chelsea a third defeat in league play.
