The Chicago Bears are holding out hope that their workhorse running back can return at some point this season.

Although Matt Forte's knee injury against the Minnesota Vikings looked pretty bad on Sunday, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports that surgery is not expected.

The Bears have not yet announced a timetable for Forte's return, nor have they announced anything conclusive about the nature of his injury. The team would certainly like him back as soon as possible, as he's their main generator of offense (109.6 total yards per game). The soon-to-be 30-year-old running back has a mutual interest to bounce back, since he's in a contract year.
