Bayern doubles up on Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg, Germany – Bayern Munich's dominance of the Bundesliga continued on Friday as the club secured a 2-0 win at Wolfsburg to move 18 points clear at the top of the league.

Mario Mandzukic scored against his former side in the first half to put Bayern on top, while Arjen Robben came off the bench to add the second goal in stoppage time.

The defeat means that Wolfsburg could drop as far as 15th by the end of the weekend, while Bayern is well on its way to its 22nd Bundesliga crown.

Mandzukic opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a wonderfully executed overhead kick from Bastian Schweinsteiger's header.

Wolfsburg didn't offer a lot going forward but had a chance to equalize in the 77th minute when Diego's free kick forced a good save from Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

The hosts pressed ahead toward the end of the match but were caught on the break as Thomas Muller's cross allowed Robben to notch his second goal of the campaign shortly before the final whistle.

Dortmund was hammered 4-1 by Hamburg in its last Bundesliga game, but the club earned a 2-2 draw at Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League in midweek and faces a tough test from fourth-place Eintracht, which sits only two points back of last season's champions.

Bayer Leverkusen is sandwiched between the two sides in third place and will be expected to collect three points from relegation-battling Augsburg.

Freiburg is in the mix for a Europa League place and faces at trip to Werder Bremen, which has won its last two league matches, while Mainz is level on points with Freiburg and entertains a Schalke side that has claimed one point from its last three games and will have one eye on its Champions League round of 16 contest at Galatasaray on Wednesday.

Last-place Greuther Furth travels to bottom-half side Dusseldorf, Hannover goes for its third win in four matches when the club visits Nurnberg and Hoffenheim tries to end a run of eight defeats in 10 games as the club hosts Stuttgart.
