Former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka will not be playing in next week's Sony Open due to a nagging foot injury.

Azarenka, upset in straight sets by American Lauren Davis last week in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open, first suffered the injury prior to the Australian Open and has yet to fully recover.

"I am very sad not to be able to compete at this year's Sony Open in Miami," said the Belarusian. "Miami is an amazing place and a great tournament. I hope to be there next year fully recovered and able to be competing for the title."

The two-time Grand Slam winner, who has twice won the Sony Open, has dipped to No. 4 in the world rankings.

The Sony Open starts on Monday, Mar. 17.
