Athletic Bilbao bounced back from a disappointing league defeat last time out to earn an impressive come-from- behind victory over Real Betis in a 2-1 result at San Mames on Thursday.

Bilbao was on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline against Espanyol on Monday, and things appeared to be heading further south when Real Betis' Jorge Molina opened the scoring in the 62nd minute of Thursday's affair.

But the match turned in Bilbao's favor in the final 17 minutes as Oscar De Marcos broke through in the 73rd minute for his third league goal of the campaign and Mikel San Jose notched the game-winner eight minutes from time.

Athletic Bilbao improves to 12 points on the season while Real Betis remains on five points.

Villarreal maintained its unbeaten start to the La Liga season on Thursday by picking up a 2-1 win over Espanyol. Jeremy Perbet and Jonathan Pereira produced the goals for Villarreal while Sergio Garcia pulled back a consolation strike for Espanyol.

Also on Thursday, Lisandro Lopez and Alvaro Arroyo scored on opposite sides of halftime in Getafe's 2-0 victory over Celta Vigo.
