Houston, TX – The Houston Astros activated outfielder Jordan Schafer from the 15-day disabled list Saturday among a slew of moves for the first day of roster expansion.
Schafer originally landed on the 15-day disabled list on Aug. 7 due to a separated left shoulder. He was hitting just .216 with four home runs and 23 RBI in 96 games at the time.
Houston also recalled infielder Matt Downs from Triple-A Oklahoma City, purchased the contract of pitcher Jose Valdez from Oklahoma City, and claimed infielder Brandon Laird off waivers from the New York Yankees.
