Arizona remains strong No. 1 in men's hoops poll

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Arizona is again the top-ranked men's college basketball team in the latest Associated Press poll.

The Wildcats, coming off their first road sweep of UCLA and USC in nine seasons, earned 61 first-place votes -- one more than last week -- and a total of 1,621 points from a nationwide media panel to retain the top spot for a sixth consecutive week.

Syracuse is ranked second for the sixth straight week and picked up the remaining four first-place votes, down one from last week.

Wisconsin, Michigan State and Wichita State round out the top five, as Ohio State tumbled from third to 11th following a pair of losses last week.

Villanova, Florida, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and San Diego State complete the top 10. San Diego State moved up three spots from 13th.

The second 10 consists of Ohio State, Baylor, Kentucky, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Memphis, Louisville, Cincinnati and Creighton. Baylor also took fall, dropping five spots from seventh after a loss to Iowa State last week.

Colorado, Pittsburgh, Duke, Saint Louis, Oklahoma and UCLA are the last teams ranked this week. Oklahoma and UCLA are tied for 25th, while Duke dropped seven places from 16th after loss to Clemson on Saturday.

A total of 11 ranked teams lost at least once last week, leading to the shakeup near the bottom as six new teams entered this week's poll.

Cincinnati, Creighton, Pittsburgh, Saint Louis, Oklahoma and UCLA are this week's newcomers, replacing Missouri, Oregon, Kansas State, Gonzaga and Illinois.

This week's schedule features a few ranked matchups, including Thursday's Pac-12 tussle between UCLA and Colorado in Boulder. On Saturday, Oklahoma visits Baylor and Kansas hosts Oklahoma State in the Big 12, while former Big East rivals Pittsburgh and Syracuse renew hostilities in the Carrier Dome as ACC opponents.
