Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Angels acquired All-Star closer Huston Street on Friday night in a six-player trade with the San Diego Padres.
The Angels dealt infielders Taylor Lindsey and Jose Rondon and right-handed pitchers R.J. Alvarez and Elliot Morris to San Diego in exchange for Street and fellow righty Trevor Gott.
Street, who had 24 saves and a 1.09 ERA in 33 appearances for the Padres this season, was seen pounding fists and shaking hands with fellow relievers in the bullpen during San Diego's game against the New York Mets on Friday night, an indication he had been dealt.
The 30-year-old and his $7 million salary were seen as hot commodities on the trade market.
"He's been a very, very good closer," Padres manager Bud Black said. "I knew prior to the game that this could happen."
Street has 258 career saves and a 2.87 ERA in 548 games with Oakland, Colorado and San Diego. He has been particularly effective for the Padres over the past three seasons, posting a 2.03 ERA and 80 saves with 127 strikeouts in 128 2/3 innings.
"I think that Huston is going to be a great addition and fit into the back end of our pen," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "We're excited to have him."
None of the other players involved in the trade have major-league experience but Padres assistant general manager A.J. Hinch said the team was excited about the prospects it received.
The Padres have been without a general manager since firing Josh Byrnes last month.
"We feel like we hit the mark on these four guys," Hinch said.
The 22-year-old Lindsey was rated as the Angels' top prospect by Baseball America. He has hit .247 with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 75 games for Triple-A Salt Lake this season.
Alvarez has posted a 0.33 ERA pitching 21 times in relief for Double-A Arkansas this season.
