Former Red Bull New York striker Juan Pablo Angel made himself at home on Wednesday at Red Bull Arena, scoring the opening goal for Chivas USA in a 1-1 draw with the home side.

Angel scored on an acrobatic volley early in the second half to put the Goats in front, while New York responded nine minutes later through Kenny Cooper, who netted his 11th goal of the campaign.

New York had won its last five games entering the match, while Chivas is now unbeaten in three games following a three-match losing streak.

The Red Bulls generated the majority of the chances in the first half but failed to find the back of the net as Brandon Barklage went close with a shot from outside the penalty area.

Thierry Henry also narrowly missed the goal while Roy Miller should have scored from six yards but couldn't manage to curl the ball inside the far post.

Chivas had just one good scoring chance and it came from Angel, who struck the post after a pass from Jose Correa.

But Angel needed less than two minutes after the break to open the scoring when Rauwshan McKenzie nodded down a corner kick that Angel fired past goalkeeper Ryan Meara with an impressive volley.

Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy did well to keep out a close-range header from Henry, but Cooper equalized in the 56th minute after being set up by Richards.

New York had the best chance to win the match in the 83rd minute when Dax McCarty's header beat Kennedy but was cleared off the line by defender Ante Jazic.
