Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka will be leaving Stamford Bridge in January to join Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.

Anelka handed in a transfer request recently and his move to Shanghai will go through once the transfer window opens after he agreed to a two-year contract with the Chinese club that will reportedly pay him $270,000 a week.

The move has been confirmed by Chelsea with Anelka's three-year stay in London about to come to an end after he scored 59 goals in 185 games following a move from Bolton in January 2008.

The 32-year-old Frenchman is in the final year of his contract with Chelsea and it became clear that his deal would not be extended.
