Ajax took over first place in the Eredivisie on Sunday with a 3-0 home win against Zwolle, going one point clear of both PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord.

PSV's 2-1 defeat against Heerenveen on Saturday opened the door for the Amsterdam outfit, who took full advantage against a Zwolle side battling relegation.

The hosts took the lead in the 19th minute through Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Siem De Jong doubled the advantage in the 26th minute to put Ajax in firm control.

Derk Boerrigter then capped the scoring 10 minutes from time with his fourth goal of the season, returning the defending champions to the top spot.

Feyenoord has title ambitions of its own and the Rotterdam side moved to within a point of first place with a 1-0 win at Roda courtesy of Graziano Pelle's goal in the 30th minute.

Utrecht earned a 1-0 victory at home against RKC Waalwijk when Jacob Mulenga scored the lone goal in the 78th minute, while Vitesse strengthened its hold on fourth place with a 1-0 win at Twente as Wilfried Bony scored his league- leading 24th goal of the campaign in the 63rd minute.
