Allison McNeill has resigned as coach of Canada's women's basketball team after holding the job for more than a decade.

The Canadian women reached the quarterfinals of the London Olympics, losing to a U.S. team that went on to win the gold medal. Canada is ranked No. 9 in the world.

McNeill announced her resignation during a conference call Monday from her home in Surrey, British Columbia. She says she has given "heart and soul" to the team, but she says basketball is not as important as it once was.

She leaves as Canada's longest-serving national coach of a women's team. Jack Donohue coached the men's team for 17 seasons.
