Alex Rodriguez was in the lineup for the New York Yankees on Monday in a 4-3 loss to open a three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Rodriguez batted fourth as the designated hitter, finishing 1-for-4 with a run scored in his first action since late July.

Rodriguez, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list for a fractured left hand after being hit by a pitch by the Seattle Mariners' Felix Hernandez on July 24, hit .276 with 15 homers and 44 RBI in 94 games before the setback.

The Yankees went 18-18 during Rodriguez's absence.

In two rehab games for Single-A Tampa, the 37-year-old went 0-for-7 with a walk and four strikeouts.
