Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Francisco 49ers claimed quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings and waived quarterback John Skelton.

Bethel-Thompson was waived by the Vikings on Oct. 8. The Sacramento State product has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Skelton was signed by the 49ers on Oct. 2. He was originally drafted by Arizona in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft and spent three seasons with the Cardinals, compiling 15 touchdowns passes and 3,707 yards over 20 games, including 17 starts.

The 25-year-old signal-caller appeared in seven games (six starts) with the Cardinals in 2012 and threw for 1,132 yards and two touchdowns with nine interceptions before being released on April 1.

Skelton signed with Cincinnati two days later and spent training camp with the Bengals, but was released at the culmination of camp.
