100 Sssnakes Ssslaughtered in Florida

Police in central Florida say more than 100 dead animals were found inside a house in foreclosure.

Among the carcasses that law enforcement officers have pulled from the foreclosed home, left vacant following the owner's arrest, are those of pythons, rattlesnakes, scorpions and mice found inside a freezer, reports Florida Today.

The homeowner is facing 122 counts of animal cruelty, according to the Associated Press. Authorities say a cleaning company contracted by the bank arrived at the home to get it ready to be sold. When they got there, workers found a large dead python in the entry and they immediately called for animal services.

Officers wearing gloves and masks removed the snakes from the home Tuesday morning, reported Florida Today. Some snakes are still alive but most have been dead for so long that their carcasses had liquefied in their holding containers.

"The house is in disrepair," said Yvonne Martinez, spokeswoman for Palm Bay police. Police said the homeowner was not a snake breeder. There's still furniture inside the home.

Neighbors said they had complained for nearly a year about the stench.
