Robert Edsel, the author of " The Monuments Men," is selling his meticulously restored Mediterranean estate in Dallas for $11.2 million. His best-seller was adapted into a film directed by George Clooney in 2014.
Built in 1916, the 6,717-square-foot home was the second home ever built along the banks of Turtle Creek, according to listing agent Madeline Jobst. Edsel bought the house -- named Bellosguardo, Italian for "beautiful view" -- in 2005.
After moving in, the author of three books about the plunder of artworks during World War II spent a year studying the home and "getting a feel for what he wanted to do," Jobst says.
Then he went about renovating the classic home. "His whole thing is about preserving history. … He spent years working on this house, uncovering things that have been covered up, discovering things about it," she says.
The three-bedroom home sits on just over 2 acres of land and features a great room with a 25-foot ceiling, a solarium, a library, and a 1,500-bottle wine room. Outside, you'll find a saltwater pool, a loggia, a stone terrace, gardens, and a fireplace with seating area surrounded by vine-covered walls.
