Vice President Biden Talks Iran, Palin, and Tea Party on "The View"

Vice President Joe Biden faced the ladies of “The View” Thursday for a wide-ranging interview talking about taxes, the Tea Party, Sarah Palin, his infamous “f-bomb,” and Iran.

About the possibility of a national sales tax or value-added tax (VAT), Biden said “no,” the administration wasn’t talking about one but, "the president said he was open to listening."

He was also asked about a New York Times article citing a memo where Defense Secretary Gates reportedly said he didn’t think the U.S. had an effective long-term plan to deal with Iran. Biden said that report was “inaccurate” and “we do have a plan.”

“I have read the memo, I know the memo,” he said. “Before we took office, one of the first things we did in putting together our national security team, was come up with a game plan as to how to deal [with]…Iran's effort to get a nuclear weapon. We have clearly known exactly what we are doing.”

He said in the short-term, they are moving the route of U.N. sanctions again them.

Biden said most of the Tea Partiers are just frustrated and many don’t understand the administration has “spent our time cutting taxes.” "There's an awful lot of people out there who are frightened and scared. It's a difficult time," he said. "There's fringes in every outfit, but the vast majority of these people are just frustrated."

As for former vice presidential nominee and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, he said, "She is a charming person. ... I say this and people look at me like I'm kidding. I like her," Biden said. "I don't know what she's going to do, and I'm sure that whoever the Republican nominee is, it'll be a very contested race." Palin is also a Fox News contributor.

Biden also talked about the “f-bomb” heard from open microphones the day the health care bill was signed. He said he was “embarrassed” by it and that the president laughed “like the devil” afterwards.
