Donald Trump warned he would attack Ben Carson if the retired neurosurgeon threatened his front-runner status, and he appeared to make good on that promise Sunday on Twitter.

The leading GOP candidate, whose incessant insulting of his rivals has become a staple of his campaign, accused Carson of lacking enough experience as a job creator to be president. In the same tweet, Trump claimed that creating jobs is something he does naturally.

Trump, who leads the Washington Examiner's presidential power rankings, also took aim at Carson's soft-spoken demeanor earlier this week after two separate polls showed him losing his first-place position among Republican voters in the Hawkeye State to the gifted doctor.

On Thursday, Trump found himself in hot water after retweeting a supporter who attributed Carson's rise in Iowa to voters' lack of intelligence. The tweet quipped that Iowans' consumption of genetically modified corn leads to cognitive impairment.

Trump later deleted the tweet and blamed it on a campaign intern who had allegedly been controlling his twitter account.
