Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump continued to tout the near-endorsement he received Thursday from Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite the history of the Kremlin's reported killing of political foes.

When pressed Friday by "Morning Joe" co-host Joe Scarborough over the killings, Trump said that "at least he's a leader," unlike President Obama. Trump added that "our country does plenty of killing also."

"Did you like Vladimir Putin's comments about you?" asked co-host Mika Brzezinski.

"Sure. When people call you brilliant, it's always good," Trump responded. "Especially when the person heads up Russia."
