Report: Obama Extends Secret Service Protection for Cheney

President Obama has authorized extended Secret Service protection for former Vice President Dick Cheney, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano signed the order granting Cheney extended protection at taxpayer expense after the former vice president -- who still is very much in the news as one of Obama's toughest critics -- requested it.

Cheney's federal security detail was set to expire six months after leaving office. Had he not been granted an extension he would have been forced to hire his own security or go without protection.
