While no date early next year has been announced for President Obama's State of the Union address, he and his staff have been working on it already.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters in Tuesday's briefing the President was planning on having a staff meeting to discuss the speech later in the day.  None of Mr. Obama's speechwriters are planning to join the President during his time off for the holidays.

This will be the President's first State of the Union address.  During his first year in office, President Obama gave a "union-like" speech to a joint session of Congress.
