Obama to Address Congress at 7 p.m. Next Thursday
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}President Obama will address a joint session of Congress at 7 p.m. next Thursday evening, ending the scheduling conflict between the White House and the House Speaker's office.
"After consulting with the Speaker's office, the President has accepted an invitation to address a Joint Session of Congress at 7pm on Thursday, September 8," White House Spokesman Jay Carney said in a statement.
Obama originally asked to make the speech next Wednesday at 8 p.m. but House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said that time and date wouldn't work. It's also the same time GOP presidential candidates are set to debate at the Reagan Library in California.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Football fans were concerned about the speech being on Thursday as the NFL season kicks off that night. But with the speech being scheduled at 7 p.m., the game between the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints is expected to kick off on time.
