Political posturing on the fate of the Bush tax cuts continues on Capitol Hill Tuesday. Sens. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., and Ben Cardin, D-Md., plan to discuss the Democratic plan to extend tax cuts for the middle class and not renew the tax breaks for the highest income groups at a 1:00 p.m. ET news conference. Republicans counter that many small businesses that file their taxes as individuals will be stuck with a tax increase in the midst of a weakened economy.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are back in the Congressional spotlight. A House Financial Services subcommittee will investigate the future of the two government sponsored enterprises at a 9:30 a.m. ET hearing. Many analysts claim that the two housing finance giants played a large role in the collapse of the housing market in 2008.
Members plan to hold a bipartisan, bicameral 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 3:00 p.m. ET. The event, hosted by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will feature words of reflection from House and Senate leadership on both sides of the aisle.

The Republican National Committee will launch their "Fire Pelosi" bus tour from party headquarters just off the Capitol campus. RNC Chairman Michael Steele and National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, put the bus in gear with a press conference at 10:30 a.m. ET.
In a rare show of election season bipartisanship, coal state legislators plan to meet at 9:30 on the Capitol grounds for a "Rally for American Coal Jobs." Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and several coal state Democratic lawmakers are expected to attend.
